This does not look at all like the reality, but at least I only have two hands. I'm glad my neck isn't that thin. My instruction to AI was: Woman with pixie cut white hair, thick black glasses and wearing a huge dark blue Oodie. She is sitting at her desk, looking out the window at trees blowing in a gale. She is looking at a monitor and keyboard.

47. Tuesday 17 March 2026

I’m not sure whether I’m progressing at a decent pace or not. I’m up to page 23 of 207, which means I edited a mere 15 pages today. But that does include rewriting a whole chapter, which took me quite a while to get on with. I don’t feel I’ve done as much as I could, but in some ways I feel like I’ve done more than I expected in light of the fact I’ve estimated a month; today is day two.

I’m currently sitting at my desk, shortly before 9pm, wearing an Oodie. I didn’t light the fire today or even put the heating on, though I did have an oil-filled radiator on in my office most of the day.

Tomorrow, I’m going to go out. I haven’t been further than a few miles since Sunday over a week ago, which is a long time for me. I feel a need to broaden my world. I love working here, out in the middle of nowhere in remote, rural Scotland. But now that I’ve finished actually writing my novel, I feel a bit more variety is needed, more distractions. It might also be that winter-spring “thing” where you realise the weather and daylight are going to get better but it’s still kind of wintery (gales and rain today) and you’re well and truly ready for spring-summer.

I’m writing this when I should be trying to finish the chapter I’m in the middle of.

I don’t think I did anything else of note today, though I did clean two fancy, old picture frames, tidied the kitchen a bit and left some food in front of the wildlife cameras to see if any exciting wildlife visits. My lunch of homemade toasted sourdough, Cheddar, Baked Beans and a fried egg was very good. I'm clutching at straws a bit today!
