Day 2 editing of version 4

35. Tuesday 25 February 2026

I slept overnight in my cabin last night, got up and brushed my teeth outdoors in the fairly ferocious wind, then made myself a coffee in my coffee percolator, which I drank outside, feeling unexpectedly smug. I then worked in the cabin all day and have made good progress. I'm on chapter 20 of 51, though that is no reflection of how much editing I need to do. For this edit, I am making smaller corrections and dealing with some of the comments I left myself from reading through it all. Once I've finished this kind of edit, I will then do a scene-by-scene edit, which will take a lot longer.

I'm pleased with today's progress and I enjoyed working on it, particularly being in the cabin on a blustery and on/off wet day.

In other news, I'm writing this while sitting next to the burner in the living room and while a sourdough loaf is baking for its first twenty minutes in the oven. Chris is doing dinner later and I feel pleased with myself for no massively good reason. I have, however, done next to nothing else of note and yet have "rewarded" myself with two extra large toasted marshmallows. And now I feel pukey.
